Bluetooth is what makes the Lyndahl in-wall systems so uncomplicated — and at the same time it generates most of the questions in our support inbox. Here are the answers from many hundreds of customer dialogues, from the pairing code to the uninvited listener from the flat next door.
How the Lyndahl systems pair
As soon as the amplifier gets power and no device is actively connected, it enters search mode — the blue LED flashes. The device appears in the smartphone’s Bluetooth menu and connects via auto-pairing; with an established connection the LED lights steadily. Only one device can be connected at a time — Bluetooth fundamentally does not allow multiple connections here.
Which PIN applies to my device?
That depends on the year of manufacture: the first device generation used PIN 1423, later versions the standard 0000 with auto-pairing. The current AMP4X15BT connects entirely without a PIN prompt — this avoids the pairing problems modern smart devices have with PIN entry. The label on the top of the device tells you which version you own; in case of doubt, our service can help with the serial number.
The device will not connect — the most common cause
In the vast majority of cases the speaker is simply occupied: a previously paired device — the children’s tablet, a partner’s phone, a smart speaker — is still holding the connection. Disconnect or unpair there, and the new connection will work. If that does not help, briefly disconnect the amplifier from the mains: it will then restart in search mode. The AMP4X15BT permanently remembers the last ten paired devices — even across a power cut; the oldest pairing is overwritten automatically.
Preventing unwanted access: neighbours, pupils, smart devices
The flip side of convenient auto-pairing: in principle, any device within range can connect while the amplifier is free — a real nuisance in an apartment building or classroom. Three things help:
- Playing yourself locks the device. During your active playback nobody can take over — only when the connection ends does the amplifier become free again.
- Power only when in use. The best-proven solution is a remote-controlled socket or an in-line switch: the amplifier only gets power when it is needed. Switching does not harm the device, and all pairings are retained.
- Cable instead of radio. Where Bluetooth is inherently disruptive — in schools, for example — playback via the AUX input is the most robust solution.
The Bluetooth name and PIN cannot be changed after purchase — the chip is sealed at the factory. For current production batches, however, we can programme a custom name and password before dispatch — just ask when ordering; this is worthwhile wherever many devices run side by side or unwanted access must be ruled out from the start. Older versions (MKII/MKIII) could be reprogrammed at the factory; if you own such an older device, our service can help. The display name can also be renamed on your own smartphone — that only changes the local label, but helps to tell several amplifiers apart.
Alexa, Google and smart TVs — what is realistic
The amplifiers present themselves as perfectly normal Bluetooth audio devices and therefore generally work with Echo, Google devices and TVs. However, we deliberately no longer give a guarantee: manufacturer software updates have repeatedly broken existing pairings — what runs flawlessly with one Echo Dot generation may fail with the next. The most stable Alexa solution from practice: connect the Echo to the AUX input with a jack cable and leave Bluetooth out of it. There is no dedicated Alexa skill. If a smart TV no longer pairs, delete the old connection in the TV menu and pair again.
Several rooms and zones
Each amplifier plays one source — synchronised multiroom playback across several amplifiers is beyond what Bluetooth can do. If you want to feed two amplifiers from one source simultaneously, you need a Bluetooth splitter from the accessories market; the volume then applies to both together. For separate zones (bathroom, kitchen, terrace), one dedicated amplifier with its own source per zone is the clean approach.
